Yoga guru Ramdev on Monday accused the Congress of "lowering the dignity" of the President's office by making Pranab Mukherjee the United Progressive Alliance's nominee for the top constitutional post.
"The Congress and the UPA government have lowered the dignity of the President's post by nominating Mukherjee as its candidate for the top post," he told reporters in reply to a question.
"The President's post is a respectable constitutional post and everybody should strive to ensure its sanctity," he said.
Ramdev made the remarks in reply to a question on whether the Congress-led UPA government tried to lower the dignity of the President's post by nominating Mukherjee as its candidate in the wake of his failure to deal with the economy amid spiralling prices and inflation, besides his stand on the black money issue.
