Surjit Singh Kohli, the younger brother of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is keen on contesting next month's Assembly elections in Punjab.

"I intend to contest assembly election from any constituency but I have not received any positive indication either from the Congress High Command or from my brother Manmohan Singh," he said in Amritsar on Friday.

"Unless I receive a positive signal from my brother or party High Command, everything is uncertain with regard to my participation in the assembly polls," he said.

"All depends upon my elder brother about my participation in active politics," Kohli, who runs a business in Amritsar, said.

"So far I have not spoken to my brother regarding this but I will not ask him to intervene for me in getting the assembly ticket allotted," he said.

"I am a true soldier of Congress although I have not joined the party so far," Kohli said adding it was party's prerogative to allot him a ticket to contest assembly elections. Kohli claimed support of local Congress leaders and said it was due to their motivation that he wanted to contest the assembly polls.
