Minutes after the blast rocked the Delhi high court on Wednesday morning, a team from the Intelligence Bureau is already picking up leads regarding elements associated with politicians who could have carried out this attack as a diversionary measure.

Terrorism by fringe elements is under the IB's scanner, but at the moment it does not appear to be a job carried out by them, said an IB source. "In such cases one needs to find a motive, and so far we have not come across any," he added.

Moreover, after the 2006 Mumbai serial train blasts, intelligence agencies have been monitoring the activities of several such groups.

One of the angles that is being explored is if there is a political connection to the blast. The judiciary in Delhi has been in the news lately, since a lot of politicians have come under the scanner.

The IB feels that this blast could be a retaliatory measure by loyalists of some politicians who want to send out a message to the judiciary.
