Police rule out terror angle in Kaiga

A terror angle to the Kaiga incident has been ruled out with the police being given a list of 10 names who are involved in the incident.

Sources told rediff.com that an internal committee probe report, which has been handed over to the police, names 10 that include scientists and technicians within the plant. Besides, the plant authorities have also handed out the telephone numbers and the addresses of the 10.

Ten persons will be interrogated, the police said. Police said it could be a case of mischief by a group of disgruntled employees who would have been upset with the incentive-based salary programme introduced by the plant authorities.

The police will also conduct a background check of the 50 employees who are in the plant.

"We will question them to come to a final conclusion and will make the report of the internal committee only once out probe is complete," police said. 

Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta said that they are in touch with the plant authorities and would go about their investigation.

Rumours are galore regarding the involvement of Bangladeshis in the incident.

"A team of the intelligence bureau which is at the plant says preliminary reports show that there is no terror angle to this incident. We have, however, told the police to screen the entire area and check if any outsider managed to enter the plant," the police said.

Sources say that there is a major confusion that prevails regarding Bangladeshis and contract workers from West Bengal at Kaiga.

"There is some construction work going on and there are several labourers from WB who have been working there. This is a floating population and they have no access to the plant. The contractors have hired these persons due to cheap labour. There is high security around the plant and it is almost close to impossible for these contract labourers to get into the plant area," police said.
