Dissatisfied with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's response over alleged war-time human rights abuses in Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said the All India Anna Dravida Munetra Kazhagam will continue to press for India supporting the US backed resolution against Colombo at United Nations Human Rights Council.
"There was no commitment from the prime minister. The AIADMK is not satisfied with the response," Jayalalithaa told reporters acknowledging that she had received a response from Singh.
Jayalalithaa said she had received the response after she wrote two letters to Singh demanding that India back the United States resolution against Sri Lanka for its alleged war crimes.
"We will continue to press for our demands that India should support the US resolution," the chief minister said.
Though the contents of Singh's letter to Jayalalithaa was not known, the prime minister had written to Dravida Munetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi, in which he had stated that New Delhi attaches "high priority" to the safety, prosperity and well-being of the Tamil community in Sri Lanka.
He said India had been consistent in asking Colombo to seek a political settlement since the end of the internal conflict in 2009.
"We are engaged with all parties in an effort to achieve an outcome that is forward-looking and that ensures that rather than deepening confrontation and mistrust between concerned parties, a way forward is found on issues related to accountability and reconciliation," Singh told the DMK chief.
