Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who underwent surgery of the prostate gland at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, is recovering well and is likely to be discharged on Monday.

"The prime minister is recovering well and may return home tomorrow," a spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office said.

Dr Singh, 75, was admitted to AIIMS on Saturday for the surgery. The surgery -- a trans-urethral resection of the prostate gland -- was performed to treat "benign prostatic hypertrophy of the prostate" or benign enlargement of the gland.

President Pratibha Patil spoke to Dr Singh on phone on Saturday and wished him a speedy recovery.

Several Cabinet ministers and friends too sent 'get well' messages to Dr Singh.

No visitors are being allowed to meet Dr Singh.
