Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday announced Rs 500 crore as a special package for the rehabilitation of rain-affected victims in Maharashtra in addition to the Rs 200 crore from the National Contingency and National Calamity Funds.

"We will provide Rs 1 lakh each to the families of those who have lost their members in the calamity," Dr Singh told reporters in Mumbai after conducting an aeriel survey of the worst-affected Raigad district in Konkan region.

Dr Singh said: "Funds will not be a constraint for relief and rehabilitation efforts." The prime minister was accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil during the aeriel survey.
