PM Modi to visit Washington later this year
March 29, 2017 00:05 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Washington later this year and US President Donald Trump looks forward to hosting him, White House said on Tuesday in an indication of the continuing bonhomie between the two nations under the new administration.

The White House said Trump spoke with Modi to congratulate him on the outcome of recent state-level elections. Trump expressed support for Modi’s economic reform agenda.

“President Trump also said he looks forward to hosting Prime Minister Modi in Washington later this year,” the White House said in a statement.

No date for the visit was mentioned.

PM Modi had two telephonic conversations with US President Trump since his inauguration in January. The last of these conversations took place on Monday, when  Trump called the PM to congratulate him about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victories in assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

It was the second time that  Trump called PM Modi -- the first occasion was in January, when they discussed the security situation in South and Central Asia.
