P C Chako, chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee set up to investigate the 2G spectrum scam, has said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has so far not offered to appear before the panel.

Chacko was briefing media persons in the Parliament annexe after a day-long meeting of the committee on Monday

"Prime minister offered to appear before PAC. He has not yet made a statement to this effect as far as JPC is concerned," he said in response to a query from rediff.com.

Earlier in the day, the Comptroller and Auditor General came in for some tough questioning at the JPC meeting on its presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer in 2G

spectrum allocation with some members questioning its mandate of looking into a policy decision for arriving at the figure.
