There has been a buzz in the air in Pyongang since February, as North Koreans have been encouraged to take part in a ‘70-day speed battle’ to prepare for the event.
Since then, workers have been working round-the clock, buildings are being painted in pastel shades; and new propaganda banners have sprung up across the city. Adults and schoolchildren have been ordered to participate in a variety of performances, latimes reports.
Citizens of the authoritarian nation could, however, buy vacation days from the government during the 10-week period, Radio Free Asia reports.
