Dozens of women health workers were injured when the police used lathicharge on their protest rally in Patna on Thursday. Several of them were also taken into custody.

The police resorted to lathicharge after the women health workers, including trained mid-wives and members of the Accredited Social Health Activist, blocked the Dakbungalow square, the busiest junction in Patna.

Approximately 4,000 health workers, mostly women, under the aegis of the Bihar Medical and public Health Employees Association, participated in the rally to demand additional benefits and skill upgradation schemes.

The police also used water cannons to disperse the rally.

The health workers were demanding additional benefits and schemes, which have been denied to them due to non-framing of cadre rules by the state government.
