Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee is planning a museum in the Parliament Library Building displaying various facets of Indian democracy, ranging from legislation in British India to the Constituent Assembly.

"Having launched the live telecast of entire day's proceedings of both Houses of Parliament, it was felt that a museum would enable more people to see the functioning of Indian democracy and is part of the move to make the proceedings transparent," Lok Sabha sources said.

The speaker consulted Dr Saroj Ghosh, who is an advisor to the Kolkata museum and was president of the International Council of Museums in UNESCO, Paris, and a final presentation on the Parliament museum would be made on March 31.

The Rs 3 crore project is expected to be completed within 15 months, the sources said.

The museum, which will occupy an area of 1150 sq metres, would have a virtual reality show enabling the visitors to get a feel of the proceedings of Parliament.
