Pakistani troops again violated the bilateral ceasefire after a brief lull and resorted to firing in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu region on Monday afternoon.

A defence spokesman said Pakistani troops used small arms and automatics to target “our positions in the Mendhar sector of the LoC”.

“Pakistani troops used small arms and automatics. Our response was immediate and strong. No casualties and damage has been reported,” the spokesman said.

Monday’s ceasefire violation came after a lull of few days in the firing. The ceasefire violations, which began on August 6 continued unabated till last week triggering panic among the residents along the border.
