Pakistani troops on Saturday evening violated the ceasefire on the Line of Control at two places in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district of Jammu region.

A defence spokesman said Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked firing in the Krishna Ghati and Bhimber Gali areas of the LoC in Mendhar sector from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

“Pakistan army carried out unprovoked firing using small arms, automatics and mortars,” the spokesman said.

“Our troops retaliated strongly, using similar calibre weapons. No damage or casualties have been reported on own side,” the spokesman added.

The latest ceasefire violation comes only a day after Pakistan troops violated the bilateral ceasefire in the Mendhar sector.

The November 2003 ceasefire agreement, which had been holding good for several years has, however, recently come under strain with the Pakistan Army violating it by targeting Indian Army posts on the LoC.
