Pakistan opens fire along LoC in Poonch, woman injured

Pakistani troops on violated the ceasefire again and resorted to firing along LoC in Poonch district in which one woman suffered injuries.

There was a brief firing from across the border along LoC in Sabjian belt of Poonch district, Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch, Shamsher Hussain said.

In the firing, a woman -- Parveen -- suffered minor injuries in Gigrian village near LoC, the SSP said.

There was, however, no ceasefire violation by Pakistan along International Border in Jammu frontier, a BSF spokesman said on Monday night.

Though there has been no firing by Pakistani troops since Sunday morning, an uneasy calm prevailed along the 192-km long IB in Jammu region.

"There has been no firing from Pakistan overnight...The borders are calm," Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar said.

He said there was no firing or mortar shelling since 8 am on Sunday along the International Border.

The IB has witnessed heavy firing by Pakistani troops this month which has left 8 persons dead and over 90 injured, including 13 security men.

To review the arrangements at border camps, Minister of State, PMO, Jitendra Singh visited some camps in R S Pura.

“The morale of the people and troops is very high. They are fully backing action of the Narendra Modi for giving a befitting reply to Pakistan," Singh told reporters.

The government will "appropriately respond" to ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops as and when the situation demands, Singh told reporters.

"Being strategic matter, I would not want to get into this discussion. But I can rest assure you, the government will appropriately respond (to ceasefire violations by Pak) as and when the situation demands,” he said.
