Pakistan on Monday said the chief of Al Qaeda's intelligence wing, Abdullah, was killed and the terror network's Uzbek commander, Tahir Yuldazev, injured in the recent military operation in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Defence spokesman Maj Gen Shoukat Sultan told reporters that intelligence reports and radio intercepts revealed that Abdullah was killed in the fortnight-long military operations conducted by the Pakistan Army in South Waziristan, in which 113 persons, including 46 army personnel, were killed.
Twenty-six Pakistani military personnel were injured in the operation, launched on March 16 against the militants, believed to be over 500, holed up in mud forts.
Sultan said barring the name, at present not many details were available about Abdullah, whom he described as chief of Al Qaeda's intelligence wing.
