Taking advantage of the split in the ranks of mainstream political parties, Pakistan Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali's party, the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam), 32 of the total 88 seats counted in the first round of voting in the senate elections.
Allies of the The PML-Q bagged 11 seats.
Election for the 88 of the 100-member upper house called senate was held on Monday after a three year gap.
The party is expected to improve its tally when the elections for eight seats of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and four federal capital seats are held on February 27.
