Pak woman held with fake Indian currency

A woman from Pakistan has been arrested in Amritsar allegedly with fake Indian currency having face value of Rs 4.5 lakh, officials said on Friday.

Based on specific information, the Indian Custom and Immigration Authority arrested Mehtab last on Thursday night, when she arrived in the country by Samjhauta Express from Pakistan.

Fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs 4.5 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 was recovered from her inner wear, a release issued by the Customs department here said.

Customs Commissioner V K Mahajan said there was specific information that Mehtab was brining fake Indian currency from Pakistan to India.

The woman had come to India along with her husband and six daughters. During investigation, it was established that her family members were innocent and thus let off, he said.

Mehtab is married to Najim Hussain, a resident of Muradabad in Uttar Pradesh.
