Pak violates ceasefire along IB in Jammu, targets forward posts

In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani Rangers on Sunday resorted to small arms firing on forward Border Outposts along the international border in Jammu district.

“Pakistani Rangers resorted to small arms firing at BoPs along IB in Pargwal sectors of Jammu district around 1030 hours Sunday morning,” District Magistrate of Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sahu said.

“Their aim was to prevent farmers from harvesting their crops,” he claimed. As per reports, the areas which came under firing from across the border included Jaman Bela, Rajpurs, Maljudh, Chak Phagwari, Deora and Himarpur Kona BoPs in Pargwal and Jourian areas of Akhnoor.

BSF troops retaliated resulting in firing exchange, the district magistrate said adding that there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing.

There have been five cases of ceasefire violation along the international border and Line of Control in Jammu and Poonch districts in the past 3 days.

Pakistani troops violated ceasefire twice and resorted to small arms and automatic weapons firing on Indian posts along the LoC in Hamirpur sector of Poonch district around 2055 hours on Friday (October 17) morning and night.

On October 18 and 17, Pakistani Rangers resorted to minor firing on BoPs in Makwal and Allah mahi Da Kothay areas in Jammu district.

Earlier, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Hamirpur sector twice on Thursday (October 16) night, drawing retaliation from Indian troops.

Before these ceasefire violations, Pakistan had violated the ceasefire by resorting to firing and mortar shelling along the LoC in Saujian-Kirni-Shahpur belts of Poonch on October 15 in which seven-year-old Riyaz of Kuiyian Gotirian village was injured.

The IB and LoC in Jammu region have witnessed heavy firing and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops since October 1 which have left nine persons dead and more than 95, including 13 security men, injured.

Around 30,000 people have fled their border homes leaving 113 hamlets deserted along the international border.
