Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing Sunday morning at the Indian posts in the Uri sector of the Line of Control in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
A defence spokesman in Srinagar said, "Pakistan army posts opened unprovoked heavy machine gun and mortar fire on Indian posts in Uri sector probably to infiltrate terrorists. Indian army gave a calibrated response and foiled their attempts to sneak through."
He said, "Some civilian houses were damaged due to Pakistani firing. Fortunately, there were no casualties. There has been no cross border movement by Indian troops."
"Ceasefire violations by Pakistan have escalated in recent times. Pakistan army has been attempting to push maximum number of infiltrators across the Line of Control, under cover of heavy firing and poor weather conditions," he added.
"In the last one month, Pakistan army has violated the ceasefire agreement nearly a dozen times. Most of these firing incidents were in Rajouri, Uri and Keran sectors to assist infiltration bids by terrorists."
Three civilians were killed in Pakistani shelling in Uri sector in October last year.
