The Central Bureau of Investigation would send documents about underworld don Abu Salem to the Portugal government to accelerate the process of his extradition.

G Mohanty, spokesman for the CBI, told rediff.com that the officers of the agency led by Additional Director Vijay Shankar, and assisted by legal experts are scanning documents relating to the various cases registered against him.

"In all there are 70-odd cases registered against Salem in Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and some other places. He is also an accused in the Mumbai bomb blasts case," he said.

The Interpol in Portugal arrested Salem on September 20 along with his companion, film actress Monica Bedi.

He has been charged on ten counts, including concealing his real identity and possessing a fake passport.
