The confession of Lashkar-e-Tayiba operative Abu Jundal is expected to open up a can of worms regarding the Indian link to the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai. A source said that he has told the Delhi police that he was indeed in that dreaded control room which guided the attack.
During interrogation, he has said that he reported to Zaki-ul-Ansari the operational head of the LeT. He has also said he was the one who guided Imran Babar, one of the attackers at the Nariman House.
The confession clearly states that he had a lot of knowledge regarding the attack. Sources say that he could have been given a specific brief regarding Nariman House. When the probe commenced, the biggest question mark was on how the Lashkar zeroed on the little-known Nariman House.
Initial claims suggested that it could have been the handiwork of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. However, that link was ruled out and the police finally stated that Headley was the one who spotted it. However, now it is becoming more evident that Jundal could have provided the logistics regarding Nariman House.
Although the LeT may have not sent him down personally to survey the place, the information regarding the existence of the Nariman House could have been provided by him, considering he operated out of Maharashtra for long.
Even his messages to the terrorists on the field were anti-Israel. He repeatedly told the terrorists to convey through the media that India should release all Lashkar-e-Tayiba operatives from jails and to snap all ties with Israel.
Now the Anti-Terrorism Squad will need to question him and will need to file an additional chargesheet in the case. This means Jundal will have to be tried separately.
The National Investigation Agency too, which is handling the David Headley angle to this case will also question him and add details into their additional chargesheet. Was Abu Jindal the local link in 26/11 attack?
