Nearly three-quarters of Americans think there is possibility of a terror strike in the country within a year, a new poll says.

According to a Time/CNN poll released on Sunday, 23 per cent Americans say an act of terrorism is 'very' likely and 49 per cent think it is 'somewhat likely'. Only 26 per cent think it is 'not very likely' and eight per cent believe is it 'not at all' likely.

Thursday is the second anniversary of deadly terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

Americans - 50 per cent - are more worried about an economic downturn than another terrorist act in the US (43 per cent).

More than one in four say life did not change after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Seven out of 10 people believe their lives will be impacted 'a great deal' (24 per cent) or 'somewhat' (46 per cent) in the future, compared with eight per cent who say the legacy of 9/11 will 'not have any' impact on their lives, or 'only a little' (21 per cent).

Fifty-four per cent believe the country is not yet back to normal and almost as many (52 per cent) believe the country will never get back to normal at some point in the future.
