National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, along with top officials, reviewed the situation at the India-China border, sources said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to call another high-level meeting later today, they added.
This comes after the Indian Army thwarted an attempt by the Chinese Army to transgress into Indian areas near the southern bank of Pangong Tso near Chushul in Ladakh on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the meeting of brigade commander of the Indian Army with his Chinese counterpart is underway in Chushul to discuss issues related to the situation on the southern bank of Pangong lake, Indian Army sources said
The Indian Army said it has thwarted a provocative Chinese army movement in eastern Ladakh to "unilaterally" change the status quo on the southern bank of Pangong lake.
It is also the first major incident in the area after the Galwan Valley clashes on June 15 in which 20 Indian Army personnel were killed.
India and China have held several rounds of military and diplomatic talks in the last two-and-half months but no significant headway has been made for a resolution to the border row in eastern Ladakh.
