"We have collected money for the currency garland to show our love and respect to our leader Ejaj Ali, who made a history by opposing the Women's Reservation Bill," Mahtab Rain, a supporter of Ali, told rediff.com in Patna.
Ali, after being garlanded with currency notes, defended his supporters' move.
"There is nothing wrong in it. Why such hue and cry when a Dalit leader was garlanded with currency notes? In the past, political leaders were weighted with gold coins," Ali told mediapersons.
Ali is spearheading a Dalit Muslim movement in Bihar and outside for over a decade.
Ejaj Ali was last year expelled from the Janata Dal-United for anti -party activities, his term as Rajya Sabha MP is ending in April this year.
