Prize will help my work: Ebadi

Lawyer and human rights activist Shirin Ebadi was shocked on hearing that the Norwegian Nobel Committee had decided to honour her with the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

She is the first Iranian and first Muslim woman to be honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize. She was selected from a list of 165 candidates, including Pope John Paul II.

The 56-year-old said the prize would have a positive impact on her work and on all Iranians.
