No truck with PDP in future: Achuthanandan

Apparently embarrassed by a Lashkar-e-Tayaiba terror suspect's alleged links with Abdul Naseer Madani-led Peoples Democratic Party, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said on Wednesday that the Communist Party of India-Marxist, which had "cooperation" with it in Lok Sabha polls, will not have any truck with such outfits in future.

"The CPI-M has come to the conclusion during its post Lok Sabha review meeting that the co-operation it had with PDP should have been avoided," Achuthanandan said.

Achuthanandan said his party was of the view that it should not have any ties with outfits like PDP in future. "I am giving my opinion on the matter," he said when pointed out that CPI-M State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had not ruled out completely any ties with PDP in future. The CPI-M has come under attack from Congress-led United Democratic Front and Bharatiya Janata Party, for

its electoral adjustments with PDP in the polls, following the arrest of LeT terror suspect T Naseer, who hailed from Kannur in Kerala and has alleged links with PDP.

Naseer was arrested along with his associate by the Bangladeshi Rifles and handed over to Indian security agencies recently. He is being questioned by police in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in connection with different terror-related cases, including the 2008 Bangalore bomb blast that claimed one life and injured several others. Based on Naseer's statements, Madani's wife Soofiya  has been named by Kerala police as an accused in the burning of a Tamil Nadu corporation bus near Kochi in 2005, during a protest against detention of Madani regarding Coimbatore bomb blast in 1998 that killed 58 and injured over 200 others. Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail plea of Soofiya Madani will come up for hearing in Kerala High Court on Thursday.
