Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said the question of L K Advani's resignation does not arise as it has already been rejected by the party's highest decision-making body.

"The question of resignation does not arise once we have rejected it," Swaraj, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, told reporters.

She said she would be meeting Advani to find out his views on the decision of the BJP Parliamentary Board.

Swaraj and Uma Bharti are among the leaders who have rushed to Advani’s residence to placate him.

Asked whether Advani would withdraw his resignation, Swaraj said, "Where is the question of taking it back? There is no resignation once the Parliamentary Board has rejected it."

BJP plunged into a crisis on Monday after Advani quit from three main party posts in the Parliamentary Board, the National Executive and the Election Committee.

The BJP Parliamentary Board, which met on Monday, passed a resolution describing Advani as its "leader and guide".

"That role inevitably belongs to him. The party and nation needs his sage advice and guidance today more than ever before. The Parliamentary Board decided to reject the resignation of Advani ji," it said.

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had not issued any directive to the party to appoint Modi as its campaign chief."

“There is no crisis in the party," he claimed.
