Hectic preparations are underway for the monsoon session of Parliament, which is slated to begin from September 14 and continue till October 1 with several first-time measures in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats have decided there will be no Question Hour, a curtailed Zero Hour and no private members' bills during the monsoon session of Parliament.

Opposition leaders have slammed this move and accused the government of trying to 'murder democracy' in the name of the COVID-19 pandemic and of reducing 'Parliament to a notice board'.

Uttam Ghosh offers his take on the strange decision to not allow Question Hour in Parliament at a time when the government has forced lakhs of students to answer questions in the JEE and NEET exams, citing no danger from the coronavirus.
