There has neither been an agreement between Pakistan and the United States for a military offensive in North Waziristan, nor has any final decision been taken on the operation, Pakistan's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar has said.

Khar made these comments while briefing the senate standing commission on foreign affairs, The Nation reports.

 The minister, however, admitted that the US was exerting pressure on Pakistan for launching an operation in North Waziristan against the Al Qaeda militants.

Later, talking to media persons, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, chairman of the foreign relations committee, said that Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua told the committee that there was no written agreement between the Central Intelligence Agency and the Inter-Services Intelligence and the armed forces of both nations for cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

He stressed for a formal agreement between the intelligence agencies and the armed forces for any action against militants.

Khan also said that the committee expressed its strong reservations over the foreign office's delayed reaction on the May 2 Abbottabad raid, but foreign office officials said that they gave Pakistan's viewpoint after reviewing the incident and situation in its entirety.
