Nineteen CBI officials get police medals

O P Galhotra, who investigated the Bofors case and Rishiraj Singh, who arrested Buta Singh's son on corruption charges, are among 19 CBI officials honoured with this year's police medals.

Galhotra has been honoured with the Presidential Police medal for Distinguished Service. He is a 1985 batch IPS officer from Rajasthan and is presently a Joint Director in CBI, heading the Special Task Force. Besides helping the agency in cutting down pendency of cases, the officer handled high-profile cases like the Bofors arms deal.

Very recently, Galhotra led the team which allegedly exposed corruption in the Ordnance factory, leading to the arrest of former Chairman-cum Managing Director Sudipto Ghosh. A 1985 batch IPS officer from Maharashtra, Rishiraj Singh, presently Joint Director of Western Region, arrested Sarabjot Singh, son of Chairman of National Commission for Schedule Caste Buta Singh, on alleged corruption charges. He has been honoured for cracking down on corruption.

Arun Kumar, a 1985 batch IPS officer from UP cadre, is has also been honoured with the same award. He investigated a case where Delhi Police's Special Cell had arrested two people, who were later found to be innocent. The CBI team, under his command, later found the two had been framed. An action was also recommended against the three Special cell officials. Arun Kumar also investigated the Aarushi murder case and Nithari serial killings.

Additional Superintendent of Police D N Biswas has also been awarded Presidential Police medal for Distinguished Service. Deputy Inspector Generals Hemant Priyadarshy, Zaki Ahmed and Superintendent of Police N M Singh were among 15 officials honoured with this years Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Among others were Additional SP Hari Singh Gurawaria, Deputy Superintendents of Police Ghanshyam Rai, S K Sareen, Inspectors Kalaimani Gopalan, Kumaresan Krishnaswamy, sub-inspectors Manak Chand, Ravinder Kumar, ASI Bansi Dhar Tiwari, Head constables Dilbagh Khatri, Rawel Singh, Constables Harpal Singh and K Abdul Rasheed.
