The National Investigation Agency has sought the custody of 2008-Ahmedabad serial blasts accused Danish Riyaz, who was arrested recently by the city crime branch.

However, Metropolitan Magistrate V J Talotara asked NIA to seek Danish's custody later, as he is presently in the custody of the crime branch, which is probing the serial blasts of July 26, 2008 here, which claimed 57 lives.

The application filed by NIA Dy SP V V Ramanan on Saturday states that Danish is a wanted accused in the August 2007 blasts at Hyderabad's Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat Bhandar areas, in which 42 persons were killed.

According to the NIA, Danish had been on the run after being declared as an accused in Hyderabad twin blasts case, and his questioning could provide vital clues. The agency had earlier questioned him immediately after his arrest by the crime branch, but before the recent Mumbai blasts of July 13.

According to the city crime branch, Danish was an active member of terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen, and was in touch with other absconding accused of the 2008 serial blasts case.

Danish provided shelter to some of the absconding accused including Bhatkal brothers and Abdus Subhan Tauqueer at his hometown, Ranchi, it says.
