The Field Office of National Investigation Agency was inaugurated at Hyberabad by Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar on Monday.
A Ravi Shankar, Deputy Inspector General, an IPS officer of AP Cadre, would head the NIA unit. Speaking on the occasion, NIA Director General, S C Sinha said the new office will have jurisdiction over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puduchhery and will investigate terror related and other crimes mentioned in the schedule to the NIA Act, 2008.
The Union Government has sanctioned 110 posts for this office including that of one DIG, two SPs and other supporting staff including executive, ministerial, technical, legal and forensics, a release said.
