Charging the Congress with "suppressing" facts pertaining to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose case, opposition National Democratic Alliance on Wednesday demanded a fresh probe into the freedom fighter's mysterious disappearance and asked the government to explain why it rejected the findings of the Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry.
At a joint press conference, NDA convener George Fernandes and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Murli Manohar Joshi also asked the government to answer questions including the purported receipt of "ashes and other remains" of Netaji by the then external affairs minister in 1954.
While Fernandes virtually linked Netaji's disappearance with the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru for "pursuing dynastic politics", Joshi charged the Congress with making "cool and calculated attempts to suppress truth".
The former human resources development minister asked the government to come out with reasons for rejecting the Mukherjee Committee's report and said, "The facts and circumstances as narrated in this report require a further rigorous probe in the matter."
"The nation wants to know why the truth about Netaji is not being allowed to be brought before the people," he said.
