“The chair of chief minister is not at all important for me. I am in favour of a unified Andhra Pradesh and if I have to lose my chair to keep the state united then I do not care about it. The Congress in Delhi should understand that tall leaders like (Jawaharlal) Nehru and Indira (Gandhi) wanted Andhra Pradesh to remain united for a reason. They felt that it was for the good of the people. Can the thinking of such tall leaders be negated by a resolution to divide the state?”
“My intention is to bring to the notice of the high command the advantages of keeping Andhra Pradesh united. They do not understand that dividing the state will only lead to problems in the irrigation and agriculture sector. The problems will be plenty as there is nothing really to gain from dividing Andhra Pradesh,” the chief minister said.
What the high command should understand is that there is a future generation that we must think about. If AP is divided then the future generation suffers and my intention is to ensure that their future is safe.
Reddy also dismissed talks that he was hungry for power. “I don’t care about my chair. It is (Telugu Desam Party president) Chandrababu Naidu and (YSR Congress chief) Jaganmohan Reddy who are taking advantage of the situation to better their positions,” he said.
Reddy said there was still hope since the decision on Telangana is a political one. “The government has not taken any decision as yet and once it decides it will have to take in all views involved in the division of the state,” the chief minister said.
