Militants on Friday evening shot at and killed an activist of the ruling National Conference in the Hajin town of north Kashmir's Bandipore district.

A senior police officer said militants fired pistol rounds from a close range at Ghulam Hassan Dar, a NC activist, while he was returning home from the market late on Friday evening.

"Dar received critical abdominal injuries and was evacuated to the local hospital where he succumbed," the officer said.

Police rushed to the spot immediately and cordoned off the area for searches.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing of the ruling party activist.
