National Conference worker shot dead in Srinagar

An activist of the ruling National Conference was shot dead by unidentified militants in the uptown Batmallo locality of Srinagar on Saturday morning.

A senior police officer said militants fired at Bashir Ahmad Bhat, near his home at Batmallo from a close range. "Bhat was immediately

shifted to hospital where he succumbed," he said.

The officer also said that Bhat's father Mohammad Jamal, also an NC worker, had been killed by militants five years ago.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing. Security forces immediately rushed to the spot.
