A day after the arrest and release of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on charges of promoting enmity among groups and inciting violence, the city is limping back to normalcy.

"There has been no untoward incident in Mumbai since Wednesday and more than 140 people have been taken into custody in Mumbai," police sources said.

Among those held include those arrested for violence, unlawful assembly and also those taken into preventive arrest, the police said.

The police commissioner has also appealed to the people through SMS asking them, 'not to believe in rumours and sensational news by certain agency.'

"By and large city is peaceful and heavy police bandobast is in place," he said.

Maharashtra government had on Wednesday arrested Raj Thackeray, whose comments against north Indians had sparked off violence in the financial capital as well as Nashik and Pune since the last ten days.

Shortly after 4 pm on Wednesday, the MNS chief was taken to suburban Vikhroli court from his central Mumbai residence and was granted bail.

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi, who was involved in a war of words with Raj over the latter's statements against actor Amitabh Bachchan, was also arrested and taken to Bhoiwada court and granted bail.
