The meeting of leaders of the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday night to discuss seat-sharing for Mumbai civic elections remained inconclusive, sources said.

The leaders of the two parties met at the residence of Public Works Department minister Chhagan Bhujbal.

NCP has demanded more than 65 seats to which Congress did not agree, they said.

Sources said Congress was ready to give 65 seats in 2007 but the talks had failed and the alliance had been called off. NCP wants more than 65 seats this time as the party has one Lok Sabha MP from Mumbai as well.

NCP city unit chief Narendra Varma said talks were held cordially. "Both parties have agreed to have an alliance and the seat sharing formula will be finalised at a meeting with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday," he said.
