A local court on Friday rejected the bail application of 35-year-old corporate lawyer Jahnvi Gadkar, who is accused of mowing down two persons in Mumbai on June 10 under the influence of alcohol.

This was her second bail application that was rejected by the Kurla metropolitan magistrate's court. Her first plea was turned down on June 10.

Gadkar had moved the second bail plea on July 16. Her lawyer had said in the bail application the investigation in the case was over and hence she could be granted the relief.

Gadkar also said that the police have got various documents such as blood report, RTO report, while all the injured victims have been discharged from the hospital.

She also told the court, through her lawyer Mahesh Sabnis, that she will cooperate with the police in the case. However, the police opposed her bail application saying that the case is triable by the sessions court and, hence the magistrate's court cannot grant her bail.

The police also contended that her bail was rejected at the previous instance by the same court on the ground that the offence was serious and the investigation was underway.

In the early hours of June 10, an Audi driven by Gadkar rammed a taxi, resulting in the death of two persons, including the taxi driver on the Eastern Freeway.

The deceased were identified as Mohammed Abdul Sayyad, 55, and Mohammed Salim Sabuwala, 50.
