Mohammed Omar Madani, a suspected aide of Lashkar-e-Tayiba founder Hafiz Saeed, is likely to be questioned by the Mumbai police in connection with the July 11, 2006 serial train blasts case.

"We are in touch with Delhi police authorities and after getting more information from them, we will send a team to interrogate him," Additional Director General (Anti-Terrorism Squad) K P Raghuvanshi said.

The Delhi police, while seeking Madani's custody, had said that he was found to have recruited Kamal Ansari, who was arrested by the ATS in connection with the train blasts that killed over 180 people.

Ansari is among the 13 arrested for their alleged involvement in planting the bombs aboard the suburban trains in Mumbai. The ATS has filed its chargesheet in the case.

Madani, arrested on Thursday, was allegedly trying to recruit new personnel for the Pakistan-based terror outfit and had knowledge about LeT operatives working out of Nepal.

He was allegedly in India to enroll youth from major cities to carry out terror acts, police officials said.

The Gujarat police on Sunday said they would seek the custody of Madani to find out if he had any role in the terror incidents in the state.

"Since he is a key operative of LeT, we would like to interrogate him on whether he had any plan to set up a base here," a senior police officer said.

Police officials from the state are in touch with their Delhi counterparts as Gujarat always figured high on the list of LeT as a potential target, the officer said.

"We would also like to know if he had any role in the Ahmedabad serial blasts last July, in which more than 50 innocent people were killed," he added.
