The Mumbai police on Thursday denied there was any explosive in an unclaimed parcel found in Mumbai Central railway station.
The police nevertheless blew up the bag, which a senior police official told a television channel, contained some medical supplies.
The incident had created a scare in Mumbai coming as it does on the eve of the tenth anniversary of the demolition of the Babri masjid in Ayodhya.
Three days back, a blast in a bus had killed two persons and injured over 30. In the past couple of days, there have been a number of false alarms and hoax calls across the city.
Earlier in the day, the Maharashtra State Electricity Board headquarters in suburban Bandra and the adjoining metropolitan magistrate's court were evacuated following a bomb scare.
