On the event of the third anniversary of UPA II, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav told the media that he would not support any former bureaucrat for the post of the President. He said that he wanted a person with a political background to hold the top post.
Speaking at the occasion, Mulayam Singh Yadav said that he was honoured to be part of the function to celebrate three years of UPA II, however, he clarified that he was not part of the government and was only supporting it from the outside.
On a day when the UPA government had little reason to celebrate, the dominating presence of Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and his support to crucial issues of the government was a consolation for the United Progressive Alliance. Also noteworthy was the presence of all the allies of the UPA government.
