The Union ministry of social justice and empowerment's latest proposal to dismantle the caste system involves cash inducement.
According to Social Justice Minister Meira Kumar's proposal, upper caste Hindus who marry from the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes will be given a cash award of Rs 50,000.
The proposal is yet to be accepted by various states, since it divides the financial burden equally between the social justice ministry and the state governments. Apart from this, various states have their own system of award for inter-caste marriages in place.
