What ails the Samajwadi Party?

February 09, 2006

The Samajwadi Party, especially its leadership, is again creating ripples. After having taken on the Manmohan Singh government on the tapping of phones of party general secretary Amar Singh, the party now faces dissent within its ranks.

Actor Raj Babbar, the party's member of Parliament from Agra, took on Amar Singh last weekend and attacked what he called was the 'broker culture' in the party. Babbar has been suspended from the party's membership.

Has the Samajwadi Party abandoned the Socialist ideals of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, as Babbar alleges? Will it pull down the Manmohan Singh government, as is being speculated in Delhi's political circles? Tell us!
