The Madhya Pradesh high court has issued notices to state Medical Education Minister Anoop Mishra, Gwalior Mayor Sameeksha Gupta and others in connection with a programme eulogising dacoits recently.
The division bench of Justices S K Gangele and G D Saxena issued the notices on Wednesday on a contempt petition filed by an advocate Awdhesh Singh Bhadouria.
Gwalior Municipal Corporation had organized the Gwalior Carnival from December 15-31 last year during which a programme was organised on the theme of 'Dacoits of Chambal'.
During the programme, the speakers reportedly spoke in praise of the dacoits and information about them was also displayed on posters and banners.
Bhadouria had earlier filed a PIL in the high court demanding that the programme will have an adverse affect on the new generation as it was organised to speak in praise the dacoits, following which the court directed the GMC to ensure that it was not done.
However, despite the high court's directive, the programme in which the state education minister, Gwalior mayor and others took part eulogised dacoits.
Bhadouria later filed a contempt petition in this regard following which the court issued notices to them with a direction to file their replies within four weeks.
