Elated over the hat-trick by Narendra Modi in the Gujarat Assembly elections, the supporters of Bharatiya Janata party in Washington on Thursday hoped that the impressive victory would pave the way for his larger role at the national level.

"Against all odds since last 10 years Narendra Modi has shown the path of progress and development for all sectors and all communities and made people aware of dirty vote bank politics. This victory is for the people of Gujarat and people of India," said Ramesh Shah, who was recently in Gujarat with a group of Indian-Americans to campaign in Modi's favour.

Shah said Modi supporters in the United States have prepared a white paper and would give it to US lawmakers next year to bring to their notice the factual position on the Gujarat riots 10 years ago.

Despite being a weekday, Shah and his group held an 'election watch party' watching unfolding of Gujarat election results Wednesday-Thursday night.

Similar watch parties were held in cities across the US states -- mainly in New York, New Jersey, California, Washington DC, Texas and Florida.
