Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has slammed the Central government on security issues saying that people are getting killed in the violence of Naxals and terrorists, while the Centre is just holding meetings on the issue.

"They (Union government) have not been able to fulfill the responsibility assigned to them. Day and night we are witnessing Naxal and terrorist attacks and hundreds are getting killed everyday. And the government is just holding meetings and making false promises," Modi, speaking at a function in Nani Karol village in Surat on Sunday night, said.

"Doesn't the common man deserve security? Shouldn't the common man live a peaceful life? Shouldn't the common man get benefit of development? No, they (Central government) only have time for dirty game of politics," Modi said.

The chief mjinister's comment comes in the backdrop of the derailment of the Gyaneshwari Express train in West Midnapore district of West Bengal on Friday last in which over 140 people died. It has been alleged that the derailment had been caused due to sabotage of railway track by Naxals.

Last month, 76 police personnel were killed in an ambush in one of the deadliest attacks in years in Dantewada of Chhatisgarh.

Modi also criticised the Union government for its anti-farmer policy and accused it of adopting step-motherly treatment towards Gujarat state.
