A militant ambush near the highway of Qazigund town in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district left 4 Central Reserve Police Force troopers injured on Saturday evening.

A senior police officer said militants fired at a passing vehicle of the CRPF at Lavdora near Qazigund on the Srinagar Jammu national highway on Saturday evening wounding the CRPF troopers.

"The injured CRPF jawans have been evacuated to hospital for treatment," the officer said. Reinforcements were rushed to the spot and the area was surrounded for searches.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

In capital Srinagar an irate mob torched a CRPF vehicle after it hit a motorbike killing the biker and a pedestrian on the Boulevard road rimming the Dal Lake.

Security forces had to resort to baton charges to disperse the mob and quell the situation. A police spokesman said an FIR has been registered and the drivers of the CRPF vehicle and a passing car also involved in the accident have been detained.
