Curfew relaxed in Mangalore

Curfew was relaxed for four hours on Monday in Mangalore and its rural limits which were rocked by communal violence claiming two lives in the last few days.

No untoward incident has been reported since Sunday, district Superintendent of Police B Dayanand told PTI. District authorities have ordered closure of schools and colleges here till Tuesday as a precautionary measure. Curfew is relaxed for four hours from 9 am at Mangalore, its rural limits, Konaje and Ullal, but would remain in force till 6 pm, Dayanand said.

Union Minister of State for Home Prakash Jaiswal and his counterpart in Karnataka M P Prakash are visiting the riot-hit areas as also Opposition Congress leader in the Assembly N Dharam Singh and Karnataka Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Violence broke out on Wednesday after Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a vehicle carrying cattle to a slaughter house.
